Are You Ready for a Heater Upgrade?

man-shivering-on-couch

Not sure if it’s time to replace your heating system? We understand that this can be a difficult decision. Deciding to buy a new furnace or heat pump for your home and spending money on the installation service needed to get it put incorrectly is an investment of your time and money, so you want to make sure you’re making the right decision.

On the other hand, you don’t want to wait too long to take action if something really is wrong with your heating system. Waiting too long could leave you with a completely broken down heater when you need the system the most this fall or winter.

Read on as we uncover some signs that it may be time for you to go ahead and contact us for a heating system upgrade!

Your Heating System Is Old

Do you know the age of your heating system? If your furnace or heat pump is anything over the age of 15 then you’re more than likely facing a replacement need sooner rather than later. Even if you aren’t having frequent repair needs, chances are that your system is not working nearly as efficiently as it used to, nor as efficient as today’s systems do.

Even the most well-maintained heating system is designed to last about 10-15 years, so if yours is past its prime it’s a good idea to talk to our team and start exploring your upgrade options.

You Have Frequent Repair Needs

How many times have you had to call in HVAC professionals to repair your furnace in the last few years? Hopefully, your answer isn’t too often. But if you find yourself calling for repairs a few times a year, it’s too much!

A good rule of thumb to live by when it comes to heating repair is that if your next repair or set of repairs is going to cost you over half of what the system is worth, then it probably makes more economic sense to go with an upgrade at this point.

You Hear Strange Noises from the System

This can include sounds like rattling, banging, grating, humming, screeching, and excessive clicking.

If you hear pretty much any noise that’s outside of the normal operational sounds you hear your system make, then you’re very much likely looking at a problem with your heater. And if it’s an aging system that you’ve had to have frequent repairs on, it’s probably not worth looking into more repairs–it’s more than likely time to consider your replacement options.

You’re Constantly Struggling with Airflow Problems

Whether it’s warm but weak airflow, or the airflow is powerful but not warm enough, it’s a problem. Now, this could be a problem with the ductwork. If you have aging air ducts that need repair, it’s possible that conditioned air is escaping out of them, or cold air is making its way in.

This makes it harder for your system to work efficiently! You should absolutely have your ductwork checked by our professionals to see if this is in fact the problem. But another possibility is that it’s an internal problem with the heating system itself, and if your heater is old, it’s time for an upgrade!
